At Contra Costa College, Mr. Ogle studied art from the geometric abstractionist painter, David Simpson. While at San Jose State University, Mr. Ogle studied sculpture with Fletcher Benton and John Battenberg, serving as an undergraduate and graduate assistant in sculpture. Internships were served at the San Francisco Art Foundry and with sculptor, John Battenberg. He also studied Ceramics with Dr. Herbert Sanders and Glass Blowing with Dr. Robert Fritz, participating in the first Raku firing and early glass blowing classes at San Jose State University.
Mr. Ogle is a founder of the bronze casting and ceramics programs at West Valley College. Having served as Art Department Chairman for several years, he is currently head of the Sculpture and Ceramics Areas at West Valley College in Saratoga California, advisor to the Ceramics Guild and Chairman of the College Division of the Olympiad of the Arts Competition.
Mr. Ogle has maintained a professional art studio since 1968 and has exhibited sculpture, ceramics and works on paper in over one hundred-fifty exhibitions throughout the United States, Canada, England and Europe. His work has been included in exhibitions at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Oakland Museum, De Young Museum, Triton Museum, Los Gatos Museum, Crocker Museum, Arts Council of Great Britain-White Chapel Gallery, Musee d'Art Moderne, Paris, France, La Jolla Museum, Palo Alto Art Center, Litton Center of Visual Arts, Los Angeles, CA, Stanford Museum Gallery, and in 1979 Mr. Ogle was granted a one-person show at the San Jose Museum of Art. His work is included in numerous private collections and in the permanent collections of the Addison Gallery of American Art and British Council for the Arts.
He has exhibited with many galleries including The Esther Robles Gallery, L.A. CA., William Sawyer Gallery, San Francisco, CA., Fendrick Gallery, Washington, D.C., Gargoyle Gallery, Aspen, CO, Art Foundry Gallery, Sacramento, CA, The Art Object Gallery, San Jose, CA and Jalbert Gallery, Saratoga, CA.
He is mainly a figurative sculptor who has worked in many materials including ceramics, plastics, wood, fabricated, welded and cast metals. He is currently working on a series of bronze sculpture titled "Chi, the Vital Spirit". These sculptures are narrative tableau and assemblages, using surreal imagery to depict various aspects of the human experience, exploring the nature of what is the essence of and vital to figurative sculpture. Also included in his current work are a series of Saggar-fired Porcelain vessels, several series of monotype prints, ceramic sculpture, mixed/media works and a digital/laser photo essay of the remaining Richmond, CA, Kaiser shipyard buildings.
Mr. Ogle has published two workbooks on ceramics, a workbook on ceramic shell sculpture casting and is a contributing author to Ceramics Monthly, Clay Times, Revista Ceramica and Ceramic Review Magazines. He is included in Marquis’ "Who's Who In the West", Millennium Edition, “Who’s Who in America”, and “Who’s Who in the World”. Mr. Ogle has built several art studios and has designed and built his current art studio and residence. He also designed and built the art bronze foundry currently being used at West Valley College.
